Travelers across Scotland, Northern England, and North Wales are being strongly advised to avoid all non-essential rail travel on Monday, August 4, 2025, as Storm Floris, the sixth named storm of the 2024-25 season, is set to bring severe weather conditions to these regions.

The Met Office has issued an amber wind warning for Scotland and a yellow warning for Northern England and North Wales, with winds expected to reach up to 90 mph, bringing with them the risk of disruption to transport, property damage, and even the potential danger to life.

As Storm Floris intensifies, the UK’s rail networks are facing unprecedented levels of disruption. Train operators including LNER, Avanti West Coast, TransPennine Express, and Lumo have all warned of significant delays and cancellations, particularly for passengers traveling north of Newcastle.

The yellow wind warning was in effect from 06:00 BST to midnight. The Met Office warned of potential travel disruption when the summer storm hit, with the Scottish Transport Secretary urging the public to plan ahead and heed safety warnings. Authorities, including Network Rail and ferry operator CalMac, anticipated significant delays and cancellations due to high winds and potential heavy rain.
